Research has shown couples wait an average of six years to seek help after serious problems begin. Six years of growing distance, repeating arguments, and slowly learning to need each other less.
Whether you’re far past six years or still shiny-eyed around each other, marriage counseling in Sioux Falls can help you avoid years of disconnection.
At Breakthrough, our therapists believe marriage is a covenant. We build from a foundation of faith, using science-based tools to help you practically form or fix the kind of marriage God has in mind for you.
What God has joined together, let no one separate.

Two kinds of couples come here
Two kinds of couples come here
Both are doing the right thing.
You’re already married
Something has recently shifted… or it’s been shifting for a long time. You love each other, but you keep having the same fights (or the same silences). You want things to be different, but you don’t know what to do.
You’re not married yet
You’re building a relationship you want to last. You want to understand each other more deeply before life gets complicated. Maybe your pastor sent you here. Either way, you’re fit for premarital counseling.

FAQs About Marriage Counseling in Sioux Falls
FAQs About Marriage Counseling in Sioux Falls
What if my spouse or partner doesn’t want to come?
Individual therapy is a meaningful place to start. Working on your own patterns and communication has a real impact on your relationship — even if you’re the only one in the room. Your spouse is always welcome if they become open to joining.
Do my spouse and I both have to be Christians?
No. We welcome couples of all backgrounds. Our therapists lead with our own Christian faith because it’s core to who we are (and to what Breakthrough is). But we don’t require you to engage with it. If you’d prefer to keep faith out of the conversation, we respect that.
Is premarital counseling only for couples who have problems?
Not at all. Premarital counseling is most valuable when you’re building the foundation, not repairing it. Couples who do premarital counseling report higher relationship satisfaction and lower divorce rates. It’s one of the highest-return investments you can make before your wedding.
How long does couples counseling take?
It depends on your needs, goals, and relationship status. Premarital counseling typically runs 6 sessions. Couples addressing conflict or rebuilding trust after a significant breach usually need more time. Your therapist will give you a realistic sense of timeline at your first session.
Do you accept insurance for couples counseling?
Coverage for couples counseling varies by plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company before your first appointment. Breakthrough also offers direct-pay discounts and sliding scale fees. Please reach out to info@breakthroughsfc.org with any billing questions.
