The way you work is wonderful

Let’s learn some more about it

Scripture tells us that we are all created in the image of God, with inherent dignity and worth.

Yet every person is also unique. Your individual needs, experiences, and challenges may sometimes make life feel more difficult than it should.

A psychological assessment can help you learn more about yourself — and make a path to move forward with more ease, more growth, and more confidence in the many strengths you have.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.

–Psalm 139:14

How psychological assessments work

Start with an initial appointment to identify your needs and goals. During that time we’ll complete a clinical interview to gather the additional info we need.

Depending on your referral question, you’ll complete a few assessments that help us understand how you think and learn. We’ll handle the scoring and professional interpretation of your results.

Within two weeks, you’ll meet with your psychologist to discuss your strengths, your challenges, and our recommendations for your success. Then, you’ll receive a copy of our comprehensive written report.

FAQs About Psychological Assessments in Sioux Falls

Is a psychological assessment the same as therapy?

No, but the two often work together. An assessment is a focused evaluation designed to answer specific questions about your brain and behavior. Once you have those answers, therapy (or another type of support) can help you address them effectively.

How long does the process take?

Most assessments involve three appointments: an initial consultation, the testing itself, and a feedback session, where we walk through your results together. We’ll give you a clear timeline at your first meeting.

Will my results be shared with anyone?

No. Your assessment results are fully confidential and covered under HIPAA. We’ll never share them with your school, employer, insurance company, or anyone else without your written permission.

Is this covered by insurance?

Coverage for psychological assessment varies by plan. We recommend contacting your insurance company before your first appointment to ask about your benefits. We’re happy to help you navigate this, too — reach out at info@breakthroughsfc.org.

My child is nervous about being “tested.” What should I tell them?

This is not a regular test. There are no right or wrong answers, nothing to study for, nothing to pass or fail. The goal is simply to understand how they think and learn — so we can make things easier for them, not harder.
