Perhaps you’ve spoken with a Christian counselor, and nothing really changed. Or you hired a clinical therapist, but you felt uncomfortable leaving your faith at the door. Or you’re skeptical of this whole therapy concept in general.
We’d like to help you see things differently.
At Breakthrough, our therapists are biblically based and psychologically sound. We take the time to ask insightful questions, listen to your concerns, and create a plan that brings the breakthrough you haven’t found elsewhere.

Why choose Breakthrough for Christian grief counseling?
Why choose Breakthrough for Christian grief counseling?
Grief and faith don’t always get along.
Sometimes loss makes God feel closer. Sometimes it makes Him feel unfathomably far. Sometimes it raises questions you don’t know how to ask in a church setting, or anger you’ve been told you aren’t supposed to feel.
Our clinically trained therapists hold all of it. They don’t rush toward resolution, offer pat answers, or tell you how you should be feeling by now. They’ve sat with enough grief to know it moves at its own pace — and the most helpful thing they can do is stay present while it does.

FAQs About Grief Counseling in Sioux Falls
FAQs About Grief Counseling in Sioux Falls
Is grief counseling different from regular therapy?
Everyone’s therapy journey is unique. Some people start seeing a therapist to explore themes of grief, then continue seeing them for broader personal growth. Others start seeing a therapist for other reasons, then address loss as it occurs. Breakthrough’s grief counseling sessions follow the same general structure of our individual therapy sessions. What you work on with your therapist is ultimately up to you.
What if my grief isn’t about a death?
Grief is grief. The loss of a relationship, career, home, even an old version of yourself — these are real losses that deserve real care. You don’t need anyone’s permission to grieve something. Therapy can help you do so in a healthy, hope-bringing way.
How long does grief therapy take?
As long as it takes. Any therapist who gives you a firm timeline without knowing your situation is simply guessing. Some people find significant relief in a short, focused period. Others carry grief that requires longer support. Your therapist will check in on your progress, adjust accordingly, and help you find your footing again.
