Individual therapy in Sioux Falls

An attentive ear for whatever you’re holding inside

And an outstretched hand for whatever comes up.

Breakthrough offers individual therapy to help you learn about — and let go of — anything weighing on your mind, body, or spirit.

BEGIN YOUR BREAKTHROUGH

Maybe you’ve tried everything. Maybe you’ve tried nothing.

Maybe it’s time to try something (or someone) new

Perhaps you’ve spoken with a Christian counselor, and nothing really changed. Or you hired a clinical therapist, but you felt uncomfortable leaving your faith at the door. Or you’re skeptical of this whole therapy concept in general.

We’d like to help you see things differently.

At Breakthrough, our therapists are biblically based and psychologically sound. We take the time to ask insightful questions, listen to your concerns, and create a plan that brings the breakthrough you haven’t found elsewhere.

What makes Breakthrough different from what you may have tried?

Working with a therapist is a lot like any relationship. You need chemistry, vulnerability, and a commitment to build trust over time.

Yet your relationship with your therapist is different in a few key ways. We’re objective about your past. We’re trained to help you overcome it. And we operate with full discretion, so you never have to worry about being judged or dismissed.

We are, humbly speaking, deserving of clients’ trust. With a little time, we hope to earn yours.

MEET OUR THERAPISTS

What to expect once you reach out

Here’s what spiritual counseling at Breakthrough looks like

Your first session feels like a casual coffee with a mentor (and you’re welcome to bring one if you’d like). During this 50-minute meeting, your therapist will get to know you, asking about your current concerns, personal and family history, and support systems. At the end, you’ll be able to set up your next appointment.
Everyone’s treatment plan looks a little different. Drawing on clinical best practices and your own faith values, your therapist will recommend an approach tailored to your specific needs, goals, and lifestyle. You’ll know exactly what you’re working toward and why.
Therapy works best when it’s consistent. While your cadence may vary, we usually recommend attending therapy sessions weekly, biweekly, or monthly. Your therapist will check in on your progress, adjust the approach as needed, and celebrate the wins with you — because we’re sincerely invested in your breakthrough.

FAQs About Individual Therapy in Sioux Falls

How is individual therapy different from talking to a pastor or a trusted friend?

A therapist offers something a pastor or friend can’t: professional psychological training, practical tools to create lasting change, and a relationship that exists entirely for your benefit. Pastors and friends are great, but they don’t have the clinical training of the therapists at Breakthrough.

How long will I need to come to individual therapy?

It depends on what you’re working on. Some people come for a focused season of 8–12 sessions. Others find consistent therapy valuable for much longer. Your therapist will give you an honest sense of timeline at your first session, and you’ll revisit your goals as you go.

Can I switch therapists if it doesn’t feel like a good fit?

Certainly. While we do our best to pair you with a therapist who matches your needs and preferences, sometimes the chemistry just isn’t there. If that’s the case, let us know, and we’ll help you find a better fit.
